May 2011 The work day is coming up on May 1st at 1:30 PM. If the storm coming up the coast brings the amount of rain predicated, the work day may be canceled. If that is the case, there will be a calling done on the calling post. to all the members. The board has been working on the show rules and there have been some changes. The new show rules will be posted at the secretary stand for all to be able to read as well as copies will be available to all members. I have heard of some new foals being born and I want to give congratulations to them. Also there are a lot of plans being made by different members for their show season. I want to give my wishes of a lot of good luck to all the members for their show season. Lisa Sprague is looking for people to help her with the clean up of the fair grounds during and after the shows. She would like volunteers to work at least a couple of hours during and after the shows. If you would like to help her out please call her at 607-862-9353 to be put on the schedule. GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE MAVERICK MEMBERS Bill McGowan |

November 2010 Here we are in the month of November and the year end banquet is right around the corner. It is November 27, 2010 at the American Legion (same place as last year). The doors will be open at 6:00 PM and we hope to eat about 6:30 Pm. The cost is $5.00 per person over the age of 6. The year end awards and election of board members and officers will take place. The evening will wrap up with the DJ providing music and dancing for you to enjoy. If anyone is interested in running for a board seat or office please call a board member or be nominated at the banquet. The club shows were well attended by the members, so we had a successful club show season. The only shows that didn’t have a large number of horses were the silver performance and the NBHA show. The silver show original date was rained out and with the rescheduled date we could get, the attendance was way down. The NBHA show also had a lower number of exhibitors then was expected. The board is presently working with the fair board for next years show dates. If the schedule is approved a lot of the shows will be on the same weekends as in 2010. The board is looking at different possibilities for shows that are held in September because of the cow auction conflicts. I would like to send congratulations to our youth members on their successful showing at the State Fair. There was a lot of Maine Maverick youth members who placed very well individually and the top two drill teams were made up mostly of Maine Maverick members. Broome County team placed first and the Cortland County team placed second in the competition. VERY GOOD WORK TO ALL!!!!!!!! Hope to see all the members on November 27 at the American Legion for an enjoyable evening out before the winter snow hits and we all stay snuggled in our homes for 3-4 months. Bill McGowan |

May 17, 2010 The first show of the season is now history. The weather was almost perfect except for the wind that blew on Saturday. There was 82 performance and 78 gymkhana exhibitors registered for the weekend. I believe there was a good time had by those present. I want to thank the members that took the time to clean up their areas and then went around and cleaned up some of the other areas. I received reports of this, after the show was over so I didn’t get a chance to thank them on person, THANK YOU. I want to thank all the members that helped before, during, and after the show with different jobs that were done. It takes people working together to make a successful show. The club has changed the format of the shows from a one day event to a two day event. I would like to hear from the members about their feelings for this format. I have had a few comments but I would like some more. You can e-mail me with your responses. I want to thank all of the members that came out for the clean up day on 5/2/10. There was a large turnout and a lot of work was accomplished. SEE YOU ALL AT THE JUNE SHOW. Bill McGowan |

January 17, 2010 The 2009 show season is over and it was a very successful year for the club. The banquet was a great success and I was very pleased to see the turnout of members and guests. Congratulations to the three scholarship winners Jamie Ganoung, Stephanie Hartnett, and Melissa Stanke. The club show dates are finally set up ( see web site). With the fair board not letting us have any shows when there are cattle in the pole barns, it has been very hard to get dates for the shows that don’t conflict with other clubs shows in the area. The fair board has said that they will be able to let us know about the September dates by the first part of May ( they will have the cattle auction dates by then). When this happens, the dates will be finalized. The Broome County 4-H is having an informational meeting with the State and Federal Department of Transportation officials on Feb 19, 2010 at 6:30 PM. At the front street office building. This meeting is to discuss the DOT laws and regulations as it pertains to people hauling horses and farm/agriculture operations. The 4-H office will have a separate room for the little kids that will be coming with their parents and they will entertain them during the meeting. The 4-H office would like a call from any interested people that are planning on attending so they can have enough handouts. The 2010 Maverick annual meeting will be held on Feb. 21, 2010 at 2 PM at the Maine American Legion. The club will provide pizzas to eat and drinks can be purchased at the legion. Looking forward to a large turnout at the meeting, See you there. Bill McGowan |
