The Scholarship is in honor of Dee Y Moore, who founded Maine Mavericks in 1965 from his kitchen in Maine, NY. He was the clubs "first" first foreman. Dee Y was known as the gentleman cowboy, always showing with a dress shirt and tie. His kindness to his horses was recognized by many, he would often dismount after a run and sprint for the gate and his horse would follow him without being led. He rode nationally in the Paint and Pinto arenas and at the age of 77 while competing in Tulsa, OK he was honored at the National Show and was made and honorary OKie and given the key to the city of Tulsa.
